Training Schedule & Diet

In the past couple of weeks I have made a decision to run a marathon or 1/2 marathon in each of our 50 states.  Health and fitness have become a big part of my life in the last 4 years and in order to keep myself on track, I have designed a goal that will take me years to accomplish.

My training schedule consists of 5 mile, 6.5 mile and 13 mile runs.  I have 2 months of training for my first marathon which will be the Hills and Hollows Half Marathon in Valmeyer, Illinois on September 24, 2011.  This is a very short time to prepare so it is essential that I follow a strict diet and workout routine.  My diet is high protein and carbohydrates so that I have the energy and can build muscle to increase my endurance.

I have an appointment with my doctor on Wednesday to find out if I'm healthy enough to take on my first marathon.  At the age of 27, I feel I'm healthier than I've ever been.  My brother-in-law is going to run Illinois with me.  I'm hoping that he gives me motivation and encouragement to keep going when I feel I'm going to quit!  I don't have a time to beat and I'm not racing; this is strictly for fun and to give myself a challenge.  I have never enjoyed running and can't imagine how I'm going to feel after my first marathon but this is something I plan on doing and completing... and writing all about!
